She Sells Radio

Sep 3, 2019

Thanks for tuning into another episode of the Instant Impact Podcast with your host, Elyse Archer. Today’s conversation is with Dr. Richard Shuster. Richard is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, host of The Daily Helping podcast, and genuinely great person. Elyse and Richard discuss how to shift our mindset to find our zone of genius, how to check if we’re feeling fulfilled, and why reaching that doesn’t need to be hard.

Richard’s life was put into perspective when he had a near-death experience in a car accident. Before that moment, Richard went through the motions building the empire and grinding into success. But once he was forced to step back and evaluate who he wanted to be and where he wanted to go, he left the company he was working for and went into social work, ultimately becoming a clinical psychologist.

Richard is all about helping those around him and shifting the focus from the self to others. When we are helping others, he says, our bodies respond positively physically and psychologically. By helping people become the best versions of themselves, Richard was able to find his Zone of Genius. When he finds himself here, work is effortless. He explains that when you come from a place of contentment in your life personally and professionally, goodness overflows into other aspects of your life.

Elyse and Richard chat about how we are programmed into negative self-talk and how important it is to break out of that. Finding a catalyst in an experience to reframe your mindset. Find a silver lining in an event that impacted you. This is a process and a process that isn’t for everyone. It’s a journey moving through lamenting previous choices into a positive outlook.

Finally, Richard gives us two simple checks we can ask ourselves to see if we’re fulfilled in our personal and professional lives:

  1. What do I love?
  2. Am I spending enough time in those areas?

Yep—it’s that simple. If you wake up and are excited and ready to take on your Monday, bingo. If you’re dreading the morning on Sunday night, it might be time to make that shift.
