She Sells Radio

Jan 21, 2020

Thanks for tuning into another episode of the Instant Impact Podcast with your host, Elyse Archer! Today’s guest is an incredible business owner, but more importantly, she is an incredible person. Jess Ekstrom is an author and the founder and CEO of Headbands of Hope, a company she started as a junior in college in 2012. For every headband sold, a headband is given to a child with cancer. Headbands of Hope has donated over half a million headbands reaching every children’s hospital in the United States and in fifteen countries.

Jess and Elyse sit down today to talk about adding meaning to your work. They discuss how to make a bigger impact with the work you’re doing, and how to share our business with others, even when we’re uncomfortable.

Jess shares how she started Headbands of Hope and what it means to create a business that has a strong charitable giving influence. She offers insight into potential pitfalls, marketing, and finances. She lets us know that meaningful work doesn’t have to be cause-related. We can create our own meaning, no matter the industry. Jess lets us know how to inject meaning into our lives by thinking about who you serve.

Elyse and Jess go on to discuss the in’s and out’s of sharing and marketing that your business is doing meaningful things. Jess lets us in on her best practices for getting the word out there. Finally, Jess talks about her book, Chasing the Bright Side: Embrace Optimism, Active Your Purpose, and Write Your Own Story and what it took for her to write it.
